Republic Services Courtney Ridge Landfill

Not publicly listed — call (816) 257-7999 for commercial rates. Payment by credit/debit card ONLY (no cash or checks). This is the primary MSW landfill for the Missouri side of KC. Arrive early — lines are shorter before 7 AM. Payment is credit/debit card ONLY — no cash or checks accepted. Freon-containing appliances (refrigerators, freezers, A/C units, dehumidifiers) must have refrigerant removed and documented before acceptance — units with CFC still present are rejected at the scale. Tires are NOT accepted at this facility. Establish a Republic Services commercial charge account for potentially better rates and streamlined billing. Regional upward pressure on tipping fees is expected as Johnson County Landfill approaches capacity (2037–2043 estimate per MARC study). Mon–Fri 5:00 AM – 4:00 PM (dump vehicles) · Mon–Fri 5:00 AM – 3:30 PM (hand unloads) · Call for Saturday hours Call for details MSW/general household and commercial waste Large appliances (refrigerant must be removed from Freon units) Mattresses and box springs Yard waste (leaves, brush, tree trimmings, grass clippings)

Johnson County Landfill (WM)

Not publicly listed — call or email contactjcl@wm.com for commercial rates Largest remaining landfill in the KC metro by capacity — approximately 478 acres permitted for disposal. Conveniently located at I-435 and Holliday Drive, this is the go-to facility for operators working the Kansas side (Overland Park, Lenexa, Olathe, Shawnee). Saturday hours (7 AM–1 PM) provide a valuable weekend disposal option that Courtney Ridge may not offer. CRITICAL: yard waste is NOT accepted — Kansas bans yard waste from landfill disposal. Separate all green waste before hauling. Freon-containing appliances ARE accepted but incur an additional fee (unlike Courtney Ridge which rejects them entirely). Contact via email at contactjcl@wm.com or through WM commercial services to establish an account. WM Mark II Transfer Station

Not publicly listed — call (816) 534-1434 for commercial rates. Online payment and automated invoicing available. Family-owned and women-owned business (Monheiser Land Holdings), WM-affiliated. Centrally located along the US-40 corridor in east KC — saves significant drive time versus hauling to Courtney Ridge in Sugar Creek or Johnson County Landfill in Shawnee, which are at opposite edges of the metro. Accepts BOTH MSW and C&D debris, making it ideal for mixed loads from junk removal jobs. For central KC jobs, driving to/from edge-of-metro landfills wastes 30–60 minutes per trip. Even if per-ton fees are slightly higher here, the time savings can allow an extra job per day. Saturday hours (8 AM–noon) add weekend capacity. Ask about setting up an account for regular commercial hauling with online payment. Mon–Fri 6:00 AM – 5:00 PM · Sat 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM · Closed Sun · Closed major holidays (New Year's, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas) Call for details MSW C&D debris

GFL Kansas City Transfer Station

Not publicly listed — call (816) 920-6697 for commercial rates GFL acquired former Deffenbaugh/WCA operations in the KC market. The standout feature is extended summer hours — open until 7:00 PM on weekdays from mid-March through October. This is by far the latest closing time of any disposal facility in the metro, making it invaluable for operators who run late-day pickups during the busy summer season. Summer Saturday hours extend to 4:00 PM (vs. noon or 1 PM at other facilities). Winter hours are still generous at 5:30 PM weekday close. Establish a commercial account for volume-based pricing. Verify hours directly with GFL as they may have been updated post-acquisition. Pink Hill Acres C&D Landfill

Not publicly listed — call (816) 229-6395 or email jhilliard@pinkhillacres.com (Jason Hilliard, General Manager) The KC metro's primary dedicated C&D landfill (MODNR Permit #209507). For renovation and demolition debris loads, routing C&D here instead of to Courtney Ridge (MSW landfill) will likely save significant money — C&D landfill rates are generally lower per ton than MSW sanitary landfill rates. Separate construction debris (wood, drywall, concrete, shingles, carpet) from household junk before loading. Accepts cash, credit (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Amex), or pre-approved commercial charge accounts. Does NOT accept household trash, furniture, mattresses, appliances, tires, yard waste, asbestos, lead-based paint, or food waste. Summer Saturday hours (7 AM–noon) available April through October; closed Saturdays in winter. Savings

Cost-saving playbook

Kansas City's fully privatized disposal market means every operator negotiates different rates — and most operators have no idea what competitors are paying. ScaleYourJunk logs dump fees per job automatically so you can see your actual disposal cost as a percentage of revenue. If you're above 8–11% of gross, you're overpaying. Use the data to negotiate better commercial account rates with Republic or WM, or to identify whether routing more loads to Pink Hill Acres would reduce your blended cost per ton.

Sorting

Route all C&D debris (wood, drywall, concrete, shingles, carpet) to Pink Hill Acres in Blue Springs instead of MSW landfills. C&D landfill tipping fees are generally lower per ton than sanitary landfill rates. On renovation and demolition jobs, load C&D first, haul to Pink Hill, then return for household items to send to Courtney Ridge or a transfer station. Divert scrap metal (appliances, steel, copper pipe) to local scrap yards for cash instead of paying per-ton disposal fees. Reusable furniture and household goods go to Habitat for Humanity KC ReStores at 4701 Deramus Ave, KC or 505 N Dodgion St, Independence — free drop-off with potential tax deduction. Lee's Summit Resource Recovery Park (2101 SE Hamblen Rd; (816) 287-2221) accepts recyclable concrete, wood, and metals. Use this as an additional diversion point for the eastern KC metro to reduce tonnage at the scale.

FAQ

Questions this resource should answer.

Honest answers. If your question isn't here, ask us directly.

No Kansas City-area disposal facility publishes tipping fees — all rates are contract-based or provided upon inquiry. The two active landfills are Republic Services' Courtney Ridge Landfill in Sugar Creek, MO, and WM's Johnson County Landfill in Shawnee, KS. Call Courtney Ridge at (816) 257-7999 or email Johnson County at contactjcl@wm.com for commercial pricing. Operators with established commercial accounts typically negotiate significantly better rates than walk-up gate pricing. The Mark II Transfer Station at (816) 534-1434 and GFL at (816) 920-6697 are central alternatives.

Pink Hill Acres C&D Landfill in Blue Springs, MO, is the KC metro's dedicated C&D disposal site and generally offers lower per-ton rates than MSW sanitary landfills for construction materials. Located off I-70 at Exit 20, it accepts concrete, brick, asphalt, wood, drywall, shingles, carpet, soil, and other C&D materials. Call (816) 229-6395 or email jhilliard@pinkhillacres.com for current commercial rates. Does NOT accept household trash, furniture, mattresses, appliances, or yard waste — keep C&D loads clean to avoid rejection.

Johnson County Landfill in Shawnee, KS, has Saturday hours year-round from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM — the most reliable weekend option in the metro. Mark II Transfer Station is open Saturday 8:00 AM to noon. GFL Transfer Station has Saturday hours that extend to 4:00 PM during summer (March 16–October 31) and 2:00 PM during winter. Pink Hill Acres C&D Landfill has summer-only Saturday hours from 7:00 AM to noon (April–October). No facilities are open on Sundays.

The key difference is yard waste policy — Kansas bans yard waste from landfill disposal entirely, so operators hauling to Johnson County Landfill in Shawnee must separate all green waste before arriving. Courtney Ridge Landfill on the Missouri side accepts yard waste. Freon appliance policies also differ: Courtney Ridge rejects appliances with refrigerant still present, while Johnson County accepts them with an additional fee. Both sides use private contract-based pricing with no published rates. Route based on job location and material type to avoid rejection at the scale.

A commercial account is not strictly required at most facilities — Courtney Ridge accepts credit and debit cards at the scale (no cash or checks). However, establishing commercial accounts with Republic Services (Courtney Ridge) and WM (Johnson County) is strongly recommended. Account holders negotiate lower per-ton rates than walk-up gate pricing, and with regional landfill capacity tightening, locking in favorable rates now protects against future fee increases. Contact Republic at (816) 257-7999 for Courtney Ridge or email contactjcl@wm.com for Johnson County.
